TS 101 – Liquid Integrated Waterproofer

Description
A liquid admixture for concrete to give high water resistance based upon a blend of surface-active agents and refined lingo-sulphonate. Waterproof concrete is the result of good concrete practice coupled with low w/c ratio compatible with achieving full compaction. The use of TS 101 enables all these criteria to be met due to its strong plasticizing and water reducing properties.

Primary Uses
TS 101 should be used in all structural concrete that is constantly or intermittently in contact with water such as sea walls, tunnels, basements, structural and pre-cast concrete in exposed superstructures.

Advantages
Concrete containing TS 101 is resistant to water penetration either under conditions of hydrostatic pressure or capillary absorption.
Durability is increased due to a significant reduction in w/c ratio.
The cohesive properties of the concrete are improved thus reducing segregation and bleeding.
The use in cement mortar gives excellent water proofing qualities and it is recommended to use in cement mortar renderings in brick bat coba and box type treatment for stone fixing.
The surface finish of the concrete is improved.

Standards
ASTM C494: Types A & D.
IS: 2645.1991

Directions for Use
TS 101 should be added to the concrete mix/ cement mortar during the mixing cycle at the same time as the water and the aggregates. Never add TS 101 to the dry cement.

Dosage
Field trials should be conducted to determine the optimum addition rates of TS 101. A dosage range of 250ml per 50kg of cement is recommended as a starting point.

Effects of over dosage
A severe over-dosage of TS 101 will result in the following:
Retardation of initial set.
Increase in air entrainment.
Increase in workability.

Packaging
TS 101 is available in 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 & 200 Ltr drums

Composition
A blend of specially selected surface-active agents and refined lignosulphonates.

Points to remember when producing waterproof concrete:
Ensure specified water/cement ratio is not exceeded Keep water content as low as possible compatible with achieving full compaction. Place concrete quickly and ensure it is thoroughly compacted. Protect new concrete against rapid drying out and ensure adequate and complete curing with our PROTEKT IT 601 curing compounds.

Action
TS 101 assists in the production of water resistant concrete by its two fold action:
I. It significantly reduces water demand to enable production of good workability concrete with a Minimum water/cement ratio.
II. It disrupts the cellular network within the concrete mass (capillaries) that are normally inter-connected thereby reducing the concrete permeability.

Technical Data/Typical properties
Colour: Brown liquid
Specific gravity: 1.12-1.14 at 25°C.
Air entrainment: 2 ± 1% according to grading of sand and water content.
Chloride content: Nil

Special features
Advantage of TS 101‘s strong plasticizing action must be taken to reduce water contents to a minimum. A reduction in w/c ratio in the region of 10 to 15% can generally be achieved.

TS 103 – A HIGH RANGE WATER REDUCING SUPER PLASTICISING ADMIXTURE

Description
TS 103 is a liquid admixture for concrete based on sulphonated naphthalene. The product may be used to effect substantial water reductions or to produce concrete with normal setting times.

Primary uses
• Production of self-compacting concrete.
• Precast concrete.
• Low water/cement ratio concrete.
• In complicated formwork or with congested reinforcement.

Advantages
• Powerful-plasticizing action reduces or eliminates the need for compaction.
• Concretes of similar workability can be produced with 20-30% less water.
• Increased compressive, tensile and flexural strength can be achieved as a benefit of its water reducing properties.
• High early strengths can significantly increase mould utilization in precast works.

Standards
ASTM C494 Type F
IS 9103:1999

Directions for Use
TS 103 should be added to the mix with the gauging water. No extension to the mixing time is necessary. Never add TS 103 to dry cement. When using TS 103 to produce flowing concrete at site using ready mix trucks, it can be added to the concrete via the feed hopper at the rear of the truck.

Dosage
Field trials should be conducted to determine the optimum addition rates of TS 101. A dosage range of 250ml per 50kg of cement is recommended as a starting point.

Dosage Rate
It is beneficial to evaluate TS 103 by field trials, but as a general guide, to produce concrete, an addition rate of 250 – 300 ml per 50kg of cement is usually sufficient to give the desired result. However, up to three times this amount may be required depending on mix design. Dosage rates will increase in low w/c ratio concrete and concrete where temperatures are high.

Effects of over dosage
A severe over-dosage of TS 103 will result in the following:
• Retardation of initial and final set.
• Slight increase in air entrainment.
• Increase in workability.
